Introduction

As I received my amateur radio license in 2022 and made my very first QSO’s, I got to the point when I also had to think about being respectful to the other people and confirm those QSO’s as well. I am old school, so at some point I may start sending QSL cards to all my contacts. Out of respect for everyone, I use electronic confirmations via QRZ, QRZCQ, eQSL and LOTW. I know many use that for different awards. I will always keep my log updated and confirm QSO’s electronically. You have more details on this in the About Me Page.

But I also wanted to keep the tradition alive and use printed QSL’s as well. Here is the design I made for myself and I will use it for a while now. I promised I will publish this one in a YouTube video at some point. Of course I may make little changes now and then. For SWL confirmations I have a separate template. Let me know down in the comments if you would like me to place that one as well in the download folder. I also use something similar to this one on eQSL to keep the designs similar everywhere.

Vintage QSL Card Design

I don’t know if all people have Adobe Photoshop, but that is what I used for this template. Down bellow you have the download button for the archived folder. This free vintage QSL card template has the size of 4×6. I thought that maybe I am not the only one that likes a vintage QSL card design. All you have to do is to replace the image, crop that image to fit that particular spot. Then you will find the text layers that you have to change to your personal details.

If you want the image to also have a vintage look, set the blending mode of the photo to “multiply” and set the opacity as you like. I think mine was somewhere around 95%. I know I’ve seen a QSL like this in some place long time ago. I really liked the design and wanted to replicate that as much as I could. I really like how it turned out. Now all I have to do is to make an order and have them printed for me. Since I have a bad hand writing, I also do that in Photoshop using a hand writing font and save the images for printing. That’s it, is that simple. It is a little time consuming I must admit, but I do not plan on editing 500 QSL cards at once. I may edit a few now and then when I have the free time to do this then print them all together. Here you have the vintage QSL card template. If you have any issues and you are not used with Photoshop, leave a comment down below. I will try to help as much as possible.

I was asked in a few emails if I do QSL card design as a service. Unfortunately I do not have the time, but feel free to write me and if I have the free time I would be happy to help at no charge. One more note on the PSD file, if you don’t have the required fonts, take a note on what you need and download them for free from dafont.com as that is where I also got them from. Just search for the name of the missing fonts from the PSD file. Or maybe you want to use other custom fonts if you wish. Install the fonts, close and open Photoshop and you should be good to go.
